About Hugh Violette
Hugh was a dedicated professional forester in Aroostook County whose life ended far too early at just 28. His deep connection to the woods, wildlife, and the Maine landscape shaped both his career and the way he lived. A graduate of the University of Maine’s Forest Resources program, he made a meaningful impact in a short time, serving as Chairman of the New England Regional Council on Forest Engineering and staying active in several professional organizations.
He believed in hard work, doing things right, and taking care of the land. That same steady respect carried into how he treated people. Whether snowmobiling through the winter woods, spending time at Fish Lake with those he loved, or simply offering a quiet smile and a kind word, Hugh lived with purpose and a genuine generosity that people felt right away.
This matching challenge honors Hugh’s legacy by supporting the land, trails, and outdoor access that reflect the life he lived and the values he carried.

A Special Opportunity to Give
Hugh's parents, Dennis and Holly Violette, have chosen to support NMCT because they believe it is a cause that reflects the life he loved so deeply. Beginning on Arbor Day (April 24) and continuing through June 5, every eligible gift made during this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar by the Violettes, up to a total of $22,300. This is a chance to make every donation go twice as far in support of trails, access to the outdoors, and the work NMCTrails carries forward in our region.
How the Matching Challenge Works
Every donation made between April 24 and June 5 will count toward the Hugh Violette Matching Challenge.
Gifts made during this campaign period will be matched dollar for dollar until the full $22,300 match has been reached.
That means your gift will have twice the impact in helping support the mission of NMCTrails.

Why Your Gift Matters
When you give during this campaign, you are doing more than making a donation.
You are helping honor the memory of a man whose life was rooted in the Maine woods and in service to the land. You are also helping strengthen trails, outdoor access, and the connection between people and place.
Every gift made during this challenge moves us closer to unlocking the full match.
